Majority of Water Systems Comply with DHH Emergency Rule Requiring Higher Disinfectant Levels in Drinking Water

The Department of Health and Hospitals on Monday announced that around 95 percent of the state’s drinking water systems have complied with an emergency rule issued last year requiring increased disinfectant levels in drinking water and increased monitoring of water quality.

DHH Issues Emergency Rule Banning the Sale or Use of Eight Additional Synthetic Drugs

The Department of Health and Hospitals today issued an Emergency Rule banning the sale or use of eight additional synthetic cannabinoids, commonly marketed as synthetic marijuana, following reports from law enforcement officials of a high number of associated drug overdoses in recent weeks.

Following Chlorine Burn, CDC Test Results Negative for Naegleria Fowleri Ameba in St. Bernard Parish Water System

Water samples taken in late January from the St. Bernard parish water system have tested negative for the rare ameba Naegleria fowleri, meaning increased chlorine levels in the system have controlled the ameba, the Department of Health and Hospitals announced Tuesday.

“You’ll be Thankful You Got Your Flu Shot”

Today, the Department of Health and Hospitals officially kicked off its annual "Fight the Flu" campaign urging Louisianians in every corner of the state to get a flu vaccination. DHH Secretary Kathy Kliebert reminded residents that a flu shot might be the difference between a happy or miserable holiday season.

DHH Issues Emergency Rule Requiring Drinking Water Systems in Louisiana to Raise the Level of Disinfectant in their Water, Increase Monitoring by 25 Percent

The Department of Health and Hospitals on Wednesday issued an emergency rule requiring that water systems in the state maintain a higher residual disinfectant level and increase their number of sampling sites by 25 percent. Most drinking water systems in Louisiana will be required to meet this new higher standard by February 1, 2014.
