The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals celebrates National Women's Health Week, May 12-18. National Women's Health Week empowers women to make their health a top priority. It also encourages women to take steps to improve their physical and mental health and lower risks of certain diseases.
DHH would like to recognize its nurses for the tremendous job they do each day in promoting public health and for the selfless care they provide during times of emergencies. This is National Nurses Week, May 6-12, set aside to honor all of America's 3.1 million registered nurses, including the more than 54,000 nurses in Louisiana. National Nurses Week is the time of year designated to recognize and celebrate these professionals and highlight the work they do every day to save lives and help people achieve better heath.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the CDC Foundation have recognized Gina Deris as one of this year’s CDC Childhood Immunization Champions. The award honors immunization advocates who have made immunization successes possible in their communities. Each year, one CDC Immunization Champion from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia receives the prestigious award.
As part of National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW), the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals is encouraging parents to make sure their children’s immunizations are up to date. National Infant Immunization Week, which is April 20-27, 2013, is an annual nationwide observance to highlight the importance of protecting infants, birth to 24 months of age, from 14 vaccine-preventable diseases and to celebrate the achievements of immunization programs in promoting healthy communities throughout the United States.
As part of National Public Health Week, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals is recognizing its Office of Public Health (OPH) and its more than 1,300 employees who strive to promote and protect public health each day. National Public Health Week is April 1- 7, and was initiated by the American Public Health Association in 1995 to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving the nation’s health.
This week, the Department of Health and Hospitals' Office of Public Health awarded $3 million to the Waterworks District No. 3 of Beauregard Parish through the State's Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund Program (DWRLF). The loan will help the system improve and update the community's drinking water system.
The Department of Health and Hospitals will reopen oyster Harvest Area 11 one half hour prior to sunrise Saturday, March 16, 2013. This oyster bed is located west of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish. DHH closed the bed on February 27, 2013 due to an oil spill.
