Baton Rouge—BATON ROUGE - The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Office of Public Health announced today that Capitol City Family Health Center will begin offering WIC (Women, Infants & Children) services at its second location, bringing the total number of WIC clinic locations in East Baton Rouge Parish to four. After LSU announced the closure of the Mid-City WIC Clinic linked the Earl K. Long Hospital, the Office of Public Health immediately began working on an expanded partnership with Capital City Family Health Center to ensure the areas residents had uninterrupted access to services.

Beginning Monday, March 12, 2012, WIC services will be offered Capitol City Family Health Center's new WIC clinic located at the Martin Luther King Center, 4142 Gus Young Avenue, Baton Rouge, La. The operating hours for the WIC clinic at this location are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. To make an appointment, call (225) 388-5861. The new clinic is expected to serve more than 3,000 WIC participants monthly.

"This is a win-win for everyone. Our first priority is to ensure that the mothers and children who benefit from the WIC program get what they need to lead healthier lives," said Department of Health and Hospitals - Office of Public Health Assistant Secretary, J.T. Lane. "We are excited about our partnership with Capitol City Family Health Center. Participants can expect to get the same critically important benefits and services at this new WIC clinic."

"Capitol City Family Health Center is very excited about partnering with the State of Louisiana to add an additional site to provide these very important services to the women, infants and children of Mid-City Baton Rouge," said Capitol City Family Health Center CEO, Rhonda LItt. "We look forward to the opportunity to provide these type services to other areas within East Baton Rouge Parish."

LSU Health Science Center's clinic at 1401 North Foster Dr., Baton Rouge, La. ended WIC services last month. WIC participants who used LSU's clinic will be able to get the same services at Capitol City Family Health Center's Martin Luther King Center location, which is about a half mile away, or they may use any other area WIC clinic.

In addition to the new Capitol City Family Health Center's Martin Luther King Center location, WIC services are also available at three other East Baton Rouge Parish locations.
