Geographic Information System (GIS) State Surveillance Training Program

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals was one of five states selected to participate in the 2011 GIS State Surveillance Training Program funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in collaboration with the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) and Duke University.

The central objective of the training project was to enhance the ability of state health department staff to integrate the use of GIS-informed surveillance into daily operations that support existing priorities for
prevention of heart disease, stroke and other chronic diseases. The project was intentionally designed to develop a GIS infrastructure that would serve a vast array of chronic disease areas, yet with a focus on heart disease and stroke.

The maps listed here were developed by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals GIS team that participated in the GIS State Surveillance Training.
