Bacteria Sample Collection

Effective August 1, 2012, the Department of Health and Hospitals - Office of Public Health discontinued its service of collecting bacteria samples for public water systems. Each public water system will become responsible for collecting their own bacteria samples each month or quarter in accordance with the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Regulations including the Total Coliform Rule, Ground Water Rule, and other regulations that may require the collection of bacteria samples. The Department will continue to provide sample collection bags and forms, scheduled transportation of routine samples from our parish health units to our state laboratories, and analysis of these samples.  Bacteria samples submitted to the State Laboratories must be collected in bags supplied by DHH.  Bacteria samples collected in a non-DHH sample bag will be rejected.
