IMPLAN

About IMPLAN:

IMPLAN is an economic modeling system the Louisiana Bureau of Primary Care and Rural Health uses to analyze and quantify the financial and employment impact of the health care sector on Louisiana's rural parishes.  The reports generated not only contain economic impact data, but also include various health indicators and demographics.

With the IMPLAN reports, communities are able to: 

• Analyze the effects of a business or healthcare facility moving into your area, or the contributions of an existing business or health facility;
• Examine resources regulated by the government;
• Analyze the benefits of health providers or facility development, and use the information to attract new providers or facilities;
• Analyze the impact of the healthcare industry on the community's economy;
• Examine parish healthcare strengths and market opportunities; and 
• Analyze a wide variety of other economic/marketing issues.

IMPLAN Data Files:

IMPLAN data files include information for the healthcare industry that is present in and contributes to a parish economy. Information for any given parish includes employment numbers, income per health sector (e.g. hospitals, physician offices, etc.), value added, household and government consumption. All data elements can be changed to reflect changes within the community.  IMPLAN data files are compiled from a wide variety of sources including the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the U.S. Bureau of Labor, and the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Bureau is currently enhancing its knowledge of IMPLAN's capabilities and is encouraging the use of IMPLAN data to improve strategic planning and feasibility studies in the health care sector, as well as other community-based activities, such as the recruitment of physicians and mid-level providers, health education and promotion, advertising, advocacy and grant proposals.
